Mission

KCWA (Korean Canadian Women¡¯s Association) Family and Social Services is a non-profit organization established in 1985 by a group of women who were concerned with women and family issues. KCWA¡¯s mission is to ¡°empower Korean Canadian families and other vulnerable members of the community-at-large to live free from violence, poverty and inequity through the provision of culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate services for the purpose of enhancing the well-being of immigrant families and promoting their successful integration into Canadian society.¡±

KCWA, as a non-profit organization, serves women, men, senior and youth all of them.

1983 Ad-hoc group was formed to organize the Korean Canadian Women¡¯s Association.
1985.7

Held the first Annual General Meeting on July 30 and Directors were elected. Began services at 794 Bathurst Street.

1985.11 Incorporated as a Non-profit organization in November (Incorporation # 651619)
1986 Received the first funding from the Secretary of State
1989 Received funding from United Way and the Ontario Women¡¯s Directorate. Thereafter, has been receiving many grants from different levels of government and foundations.
1990 5 th Anniversary Open House. Membership was about 500.
1991

Registered as Charity organization (Registration # 091932-39)

1992 Moved to 789 Don Mills Rd.
1994 Moved to 339 Bloor Street.
1995

15 Anniversary Event Conference on ¡°Past & Future of KCWA¡±

1998

Moved to current building, 27 Madison Ave.

2003 Held a fundraiser at Royal York Hotel with attendance of 200 guests
2004 Changed the official title to KCWA Family and Social Services and modified the bylaws to broaden service providing area into more diverse communities
2005

20 th Anniversary Annual General Meeting ¡°Reflecting on the Past and Envisioning Prosperous Tomorrow¡±

Current 18 board of directors and average 7000 service encounters per year.
