Contrary to a batterer¡¯s threats, survivors in this status category cannot be deported for leaving an abusive relationship.
Non-Permanent Residents
Survivors in this status category risk deportation from Canada if they leave an abusive relationship. This includes survivors who are:
- in-progress permanent resident applicants
- refugee claimants
- live-in caregivers
- temporary status holders
- living in Canada with no immigration status
